My Big Fat Greek Vacation: Rhodes

From Athens, we took a plane to the island of Rhodes where our Airbnb host, Elida, kindly picked us up from the airport. We chose to stay in the Old Town, which I highly recommend. (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13846554)

You definitely have to wander around the medieval Old Town; eat at the restaurants full of outdoor seating, take tons of pictures of the cobblestoned streets and traditional fountains, and watch out for a lot of stray cats.

Rhodes also has some beautiful beaches. Some are close enough to the Old Town that you can walk while others you have to drive to. Because of the time of year that we went, not many people were swimming but it was still great to lay down on a lounge chair and taste some Greek beer.

The best restaurant we went to in Rhodes was George & Maria Art of Falafel, just a little outside of the Old Town. They had tons of vegan and vegetarian options, including delicious falafel, hummus, grape leaves, and eggplant. The owners of the restaurant are a super friendly couple (George and Maria) and their daughter sells beautiful hand painted bowls and olive oil glasses bottles right next door.

I would recommend spending at least 2 days in Rhodes, probably more if you are there during the summer so you can relax on all the beaches this island has to offer. Also, if you can find the moat we stumbled upon in the Old Town, definitely walk through it!
