Athens, Greece: April 2017
Greece had been at the top of my bucket list for quite some time. So, for spring break my mom and I decided to hop around the Greek Islands, from Athens to Rhodes to Santorini and then to Mykonos. Each of these places is so unique that I've decided to split them into different posts.
If you visit Athens you 100% have to visit the Parthenon. Even if you're not into history, it's still incredible to see something constructed so long ago still standing. You also get the perk of saying you went to the PARTHENON (hella cool).
There are definitely some other cool historical things that I would recommend seeing if you have time. For example, The Temple of Zeus, The Panathenaic Stadium, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on the Acropolis.
One of the coolest things we did while in Athens was have cocktails at the A for Athens rooftop bar. It gives you an amazing view of the Acropolis and is right above Monastiraki Square.
If you even slightly enjoy coffee, you must try a cappuccino freddo, which is espresso topped with frothy milk and served cold over ice.
One of my favorite areas of Athens is the Plaka, a historic neighborhood located at the base of the Acropolis, home to an abundance of shops and restaurants. All cab drivers and locals know where it's located, so it's very easy to get to.
We stayed in Hotel Novotel, an affordable hotel with easy access to a Metro station and also a lovely rooftop pool with a great view of the city.
Even if you're not a history buff or dying to see the ruins of Ancient Greece, the city of Athens still has plenty to offer, from trendy bars and restaurants to cute shops and a bustling city center. Even if you just want to island hop, I highly suggest spending at least 2 days in Athens before setting off for blue waters.
